Pastel Rainbows

Yesterday Jubilee set out to create some art to send to Grandmother and Granddad. I am filled with pride over how my kiddo  used the pastels! When you don’t know the rules, you don’t know when you’re breaking them and that’s when things get fun! I  love teaching book arts to people with little to no background in the arts because they are way more willing to take risks. It’s kind of like learning to ride a bike, to sign your name, or even to walk. One you learn how, it becomes difficult, if not impossible, to unlearn. Not that you’d WANT to unlearn any of those things but there’s a saying that goes, “Art disease is a hardening of the categories.” Once you become set in your ways, creativity suffers. Risk taking in art making makes for some pretty exciting creative alchemy. That’s why kids’ art is so magical! Jubilee has a long, long time ahead of her to learn the rules so for now, I think I’ll just encourage her to keep breaking them.
